At Easter, we would typically celebrate together. We would gather for services throughout the week, to focus on the crucifixion of Jesus on Good Friday, and to celebrate at sunrise on Resurrection Sunday that Jesus is Alive! We then would typically gather with our families for Easter dinner and to celebrate the holiday together.
But this year is different. We can’t gather with our church, we can’t gather with our families. This year God has us in a unique position. He’s offering us a Light Line directly to His heart. Last week I had been listening to so much worship music the whole week, an amazing time, powerful moments with God. But on Saturday morning I listened for an hour and when I turned it off I could feel a weight in the silence that I hadn’t ever experienced before. God was there and He was inviting me to fix my eyes on HIM!! He was inviting me to remove every distraction, even the “good” things! God has us in a unique position where we are being offered a time to be quiet, be still, be at peace and fix our eyes solely on Him. In this place of rest, in this place of lockdown, we get to remove all the schedules, all the have-to’s, all the worries about what we will wear to church, and what we will fix to take to the family dinner and replace it all with a quiet time to walk in His Presence, to commune with Him, and wait on Him so we can hear His voice and get to know the LORD God Almighty in deeper ways than ever before. Is church good? Absolutely! Does God want us to spend time worshipping/praising Him? Absolutely! Does He love the family gathering? He most certainly does. All of these things are good and they are things God calls us to be a part of. But right here, right now, we are offered a unique chance to get on our face before Him, in the stillness of our own homes, alone or with our nuclear family, and get our eyes off of everything that usually grabs our attention during Easter season and focus all of our attention on the Cross of our LORD and on the empty tomb of our Redeemer and Savior Jesus Christ. Be blessed during this time in the stillness, in the quiet! Be blessed with a renewed hope as you fix your eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects your faith. Be blessed as you take full advantage of this unique positioned Father God is offering you to draw nearer to Him and be filled with His Light to shine in and through you! Be blessed as you celebrate our Risen LORD! Lisa Nelson, April 10, 2020
