The Dominican Republic ~ March 7 th to 14 th , 2018
Revive and Restore Ministries had the privilege of being invited to do our Renovada retreat for 56 women and pastors of the Iglesia Evangelica Dominicana from many parts of the Dominican Republic. We received a warm welcome wherever we went and were captivated by their wonderful gifts of worship, singing and prayer. We thank God for His Spirit, who encouraged, strengthened and delivered many at the retreat and along the way.
The retreat took place at their retreat camp site outside of the capital, Santo Domingo. A united team of seven beautiful, loving ladies presented the retreat Thursday through Saturday, then headed toward the Haitian border in the Barahona district where we stayed in a mission house on the grounds of a church and small boys’ orphanage through Tuesday morning. During the entire trip, we felt the prayer cover of more than 50 faithful, praying friends.
While in Barahona the team visited a sugar cane work shanty town, called a batey. There we visited the small clinic, praying with the nurse, young woman army doctor and patients. We also addressed a small gathering of mostly children in their little chapel. The pastor overseeing the spiritual needs of the approximately 2,000 residents had tragically died of cancer in December. Temporarily an extraordinary 18-year-old young man took over most of his duties as “president” with the help of another 16-year-old “secretary”.
It was evident that the Lord had a plan and directed every step. There were also visits to churches and homes where we had the honor of being asked to pray for pastors and spouses and others. Our friend Kathleen Cook had made beautiful banners that we left with the churches and campsite. Over all, we left more than 106 Renovada study books, and ask for your prayers that these and the other seeds that the Lord planted in these beautiful women would grow and produce lasting change in their lives and in the lives of their families and churches.
