For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 NLT Are you like me? For years I really didn’t understand what freedom was. I could understand it in the physical sense, that is when a prisoner is released from prison, or in a political sense, as when someone is free to worship God in their country. But, even though those are important, they didn’t really resonate with me.
It was only when the Lord began to take me on the journey of healing my soul and spirit that I came to understand that I had been imprisoned, held captive by fear, unforgiveness, false beliefs, cursing words, vows that I had made and generational darkness. In 2 Corinthians 3 Paul writes about the “veil” being taken away. It was by grace, in prayer, that the Holy Spirit came into my life, my heart and my mind, and as I allowed him to work, he removed the veil of deception and darkness so that I could recognize and understand that God really loved me and I had a choice to stay in darkness or run to the light of his presence. I began a process in which the Spirit entered a new area and began to cleanse and restore. I am sure there is still much work to be done. But now, I embrace that work in me, seeing the result and experiencing true freedom. I am free from the old things that held me down and strangled my spirit and my soul. I am free to reach for more of God, his love and ways, and to become more of who he created me to be. Have you experienced true freedom? Do you want more? Don’t be shy. Ask the Holy Spirit to come and guide you into his healing presence. Seek a trustworthy person who can pray with you. Receive the truth that will set you free. The Holy Spirit is the life-giving Spirit. Be free to receive more life! Pray with me: “Father God, I believe that in Jesus Christ, I have access to true freedom. Holy Spirit, I want more of you and your life-giving presence in my life. Come and heal me and set me free. Lead me to a person who can walk beside me in this healing journey. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.” Dear friend, be blessed as you trust that God wants to give you true freedom. May your spiritual eyes be open to the light and may you be given the faith and courage to pursue more freedom in the presence of our life-giving Spirit. Amen. Mary Sumner October 25, 2018
